Planning task:
Task 1: Case study
1) There are 4 colours in the “Q”
magazine which are Black, Red, White and Grey.
2)Black and red connotes fear and white
and grey connotes good music and eye catching features.
3
3) The colour black and red is used to
draw a masculine fearful attention and this appeals to the target audience
because in my opinion the target audience is males from the age of 15 to 30
because not very young boys from this generation will be interested in these
types of magazines, furthermore the targeted audience would want to look at the
magazine and instantly have an interest. Having said that the colour red could
sometimes attract females.
The colour
white and the colour grey are both used to support key cover lines and the title
of the magazine to stand out and white is also used to show the characters
teeth in a scary vampire looking image
on the magazine front page which can also link to the colour red and blood
(biting vampire).
4) The colour black is used to emphasise
fear but also the background in the magazine and characters appearance. This
could attract the target audience through the interpretation of fearful music.
The colour red is not used often however it’s used for the background of the
Title of the magazine “Q” and a background of a cover line. The colours white
and grey are used to emphasise names of the types of music and names of
characters featured in the magazine also used to show the words “Free music”
which is written right above the title of the magazine. This could be very
effective and significantly attract the target audience because of the fact
that money is not needed for the music as it says.
5) Throughout the magazine the main
colours are extremely similar to the colours on the front page however the
colours blue and yellow are present several times through pages in the
magazine. The colour black is used throughout the whole of the magazine for the
writing with a white Background to make the writing stand out. The colours red
and yellow are mainly used to make certain things stand out like charities,
hospitals ETC. This will attract the audience because everything in the
magazine that needs to be seen is clearly made look attractive and eye
catching.
Emotive and
colloquial language in magazines.
PLAYSTATION
Task 1:
The target audience in my given magazine is males from the age of
15 to about 20. This is because the front page of the magazine has a video game
characters from a video game called max Payne 3 holding 2 guns facing the
direction of the front cover. Furthermore the back page of the magazine has
another characters but holding a sword and a shield looking ready for war. This
could only mean that young aged kids should not be allowed to play these rough
games with guns and killings involved.
The reason why the target audience is to 20 is because of the
weapons and also because at that age people are still interested in certain
types of video games. Additionally if the magazine had a clear indication of a
footballing video game then the target audience would be to the age of 30 and
starting from the age of about 12 this is because the football game called “FIFA”
is an amazingly popular game all around the world and to many ages.
Task 2:
·
“This year’s surprises smash arrives
in bullet time”
·
“Beyond time. Beyond fate. Beyond
imagination”
·
“Max Payne 3”
Task 3:
The first phrase is presented in white under the white title name
of the video game that has a picture on the front cover. It’s extremely intriguing
and uses a metaphor to state how fast the years surprise came long. This
immediately creates interest between the audience/ reader and the magazine. It
also has such a great effect in terms of the relation between the image of the
front page of the magazine and the phrase on the front of the magazine because
of the 2 guns in the characters hands and the word bullet in the phrase.
The second phrase completely excites the reader and draws the
reader’s attention into what the game is all about and what’s so amusing about
the game that its beyond time destiny and imagination. The fact that it says
beyond imagination fascinates the reader and makes the reader really want to
find out what the come involves. Finally, this phrase creates an adventurous effect
on the reader/audience because it signs that something unusual is present in
the game and is unique compared to other games.
The third phrase has 2 ambiguous words which creates a large
tension effect and a physically violent effect. This is because max Payne is
the character’s name but also means maximum pain. Moreover this phrase also has
a relation effect between the character in the image and the phrase because the
character is Max Payne. The phrase creates an emotional effect because it makes
the reader feel the suspense of the words “max payne”.
Task 4:
When designing and producing a magazine the most important part is
attracting your specified target audience. Several magazines tend to use
colloquial language in order to attract their audience. For example, in
Sporting magazines such as match of the day words like “back of the net”, “he
was miles off” and “super sub”. These words associate with events of a football
match and include phrases that audiences and fans of football would use. They
are also words and phrases that all different ages of males would use as long
as they are football fans.
Therefore it is clear that for this specific magazine the target
audience will be from a young age of about 10 up to the age of 50-60 as long as
the audience are football fans.
To attract these targeted audience these colloquial words play a
massive role because they link to the words that are used by the football
industry and most of all by the fans and audiences of football which are the
target audience.
